Brumalia was an ancient Roman solstice festival honoring Bacchus. The festival included drinking and merriment.

Yule - Sockingbird

Yule: The etymology of the name of the feast of Yule and the winter month has not yet been completely explained, but the term may have originally meant something similar to "magic" or "feast of entreaty".

This one was just for fun. A happy mix of all colors that remind me of the Christmas season. A little retro, a little traditional - just tossed in anything that made me feel the season.

Montol - Sockingbird

Montol is a traditional Cornish midwinter festival. Celebrations include Guise dancing, the Cornish candle dance and the performance of traditional mummers plays such as St George and the Turkish Knight.

You can smell the grease paint and feel the hot flame of burnt berry in this one. But just beneath the surface is the slightest seductive hint of old mauve lace. Proceed with caution - it might just take your breath away.

Its not easy being as brilliantly emerald as a Christmas pickle but this new sock yarn pulls it off splendidly. I've always loved the 'tradition' of the Christmas pickle. I don't know if its real or not - and I kinda don't care. I think the world would be a much happier place if we sneaked more pickles in here and there.

Jonkanoo - Sockingbird

Jonkanoo is a fantastic masquerade, parade and street festival, suspected to be derived from the West African Papaws. It is traditionally performed through the streets towards the end of December, and involves participants dressed in a variety of fanciful costumes.

Think old historic homes. Think softly battered fishing vessels. Smell little fjord towns nestled in the the rocks. Remember little lost mittens. That's what this colorway brings to my mind - how about you?

A Persian mid-winter feast to honor fire and to "defeat the forces of darkness, frost and cold".

Let me tell you why I love this colorway. First, its orange and I have a sad little fetish for orange yarn. But more importantly because its like caramel dipped in pumpkin dunked in amber kissed with the tiniest strawberry meringue butterfly kisses. It makes me want to hide and loose myself in its warm embrace. But that's just me.
